+ Who Can Vote

You may register to vote in Miami-Dade County if you:

  • Are a citizen and 18 years of age.
  • (You can pre-register to vote at 16 or when you receive a valid Florida Driver's License, but cannot vote until age 18.)
  • Reside in Miami-Dade County. There is no length of time you must live in Miami-Dade County to register to vote.
  • Have not been declared "mentally incompetent."
  • Have not been convicted of a felony or, if you have been previously convicted, have had your civil rights restored.

For online voter registration, visit this State of Florida voter registration site. As it will draw the signature from your driver's license or identity card, make sure that your signature has not changed.

Things To Know

  • To register, a residence address is required by law.
  • You may register with a party or "no party" affiliation. But, only registered Democrats or Republicans may vote in their respective party primaries.
  • In a general election, registered voters may vote on all partisan and nonpartisan offices, general issues and vote, as eligible, on local matters.
  • If you live in an unincorporated area of the County, you will not be eligible to vote in city elections.
  • Once you are registered, you will be mailed a Voter Information Card, which includes all identifying information, as well as precinct and other elections-related information. Make sure your registration card is current by checking your voting location online.
  • Registered voters within Miami-Dade County can make address changes by e-mail, fax, or telephone.
  • Applications must be received at least 29 days before an election.

+ How To Vote

Vote By Mail

If you are presently registered to vote in Miami-Dade County, you may Registered voters are eligible to vote by mail.request a vote-by-mail ballot online. You may also request a ballot by email, fax, phone, mail, or in-person.

The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is 5 p.m. on the tenth day before the election. The Elections Department must receive the vote by mail ballot request by 5 p.m. (a postmarked vote-by-mail ballot request is not valid).

You may return your Vote-by-Mail ballot by:

  • Mail – A Vote-by-Mail ballot may be returned via the United States Postal Service and must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day.
  • Dropping it off at any Early Voting location during the hours of operation via Secure Ballot Intake Station (Vote-by-Mail Drop Box).
  • Visiting the Elections Department in-person during their business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • A Voter Designee – Limited to two ballots per election, only one of which may be from a voter who is not the spouse, parent, child, sibling, and grandparent.

Vote On Election Day

  • Polls open from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. on Election Day.
  • Go to your assigned polling place on Election Day. You must vote in the precinct where you reside. For proper precinct assignment, it is imperative that your address is correct in the records.
  • Your precinct is listed on your Voter Information Card. You may also may find your precinct online.
  • Bring a photo ID that contains your signature, such as a Florida Driver's License, Debit/Credit Cards, Student ID, Public Assistance ID.
  • A voter who does not show required identification or whose eligibility cannot be determined at the precinct is entitled to obtain a Provisional Ballot that will be validated as a vote at a later time.
  • If you relocate within the State of Florida, you may vote at your new polling location where the new address will be recorded.
